Chipotti and Chips

Spending yet another Saturday in town. Today we've been at Flavours(an american restaurant) abusing the fact that they have free internet for customers. Lucy and Lindley ventured off into town to find an Indian shop that does nose piercings and sells eyeliner. I unfortunately didn't go with them, so I missed Lindley getting her nose pierced! I stayed at Flavours to send out emails, update facebook with pictures, and post a new blog.
We just finished our first month of lecture phase. It FLEW by and I'm starting to think that the next 4 months will fly by as well! We haven't had internet all week so thats been a struggle not being able to talk family and friends. Especially with the birth of my beautiful niece Adalynn! That kind of threw me back into being homesick, but I just try to focus on whats going on here.
A group of other missionaries just walked through Flavours as well. They were Mzungus and we were talking about how when you walk down main street and you see another Mzungu you give the "I know what you're going through!" look and smile. Its like a secret unwritten rule of greeting other Mzungus! Its been a huge adjustment to be the minority here in Uganda. Especially when you're riding on the back of a boda(motor bike) and they other drivers say "hello mzungu!" Like we dont have names or anything! haha Its just all so entertaining what we go through everyday!
Yesterday I was sitting outside in the sun and the preschool just got out and about 7 little african children were heading down the main road to leave the base when they saw me and screamed "Hello beautiful Mzungu! How are you?!" and when I answered they assumed that it was an invitation to come over and talk to me! We spent about 20 minutes talking about how my skin is pretty and my hair is pretty! It was the CUTEST thing ever! They are always just so full of joy and love and its really inspiring to me! They have so little but they have the best look on life! Things of this world just dont matter to them and its crazy to me! It really makes me reevaluate how I look at the things I have and I get to experience!
Well, Lucy is once again sick like she usually is when we go into town and so I think we might head back to the base! But thanks for reading! I love you all and I will update again soon!!!!
check back for more updates!
Loves!

3 weeks and counting

Its almost been 3 weeks since I ventured to Jinja Uganda. 3 weeks full of culture shock, red stained feet, internet that doesn't work consistently, mosquito bites, work-a-duty, Swahili and many other things that I'm having to learn to cope with. I live in the village called Wiracha just outside of Jinja. Jinja is about 3 hours from Kampala which is the capital of Uganda. Its so beautiful here! I love it and I love being submersed in the presence of God. Though it is irritating being asked if I have a boyfriend and if I would want to be married anytime soon just because im a mzungu(white person in Ugandan). Or being asked if I can buy someone something because again im a mzungu. All irritating things aside, I have the most wonderful roommates! Kari from Pennsylvania is just the sweetest most kind hearted person I know. Lucy from the UK is amazing as well, she's teaching me all these words like posh-which, by the way means high class and snobby. totally changed my life because now I understand why Posh Spice was named that!- and chavvy and the difference between english biscuits and american biscuits. We spend most of our time talking about each others accents and the weird things that our different countries do! Then theres Lindley, oh my east coast rival. We are always competing on which coast is infact better than the other. She thinks im to free spirited and chill and she likes "uptightness". She hates burbs, farts, any other bodily functions and bathroom humor but I still love her! Then theres becky! ahh shes sooo funny! Shes Ugandan and she is soo sweet! She has the most faith that I've ever seen from anyone and its so inspiring!
On saturdays we head into town and get american breakfast at a restaurant called the Keep. I usually get a coffee and french toast! But its french toast without syrup but still more delicious than posho. Posho is the most disgusting thing ever to face this earth. It looks like mashed potatoes and im actually not even really sure what it is. Its dry and gross and Africans love it. Some evenings we order chips, chicken and chipotti! Its the best thing ever. Chipotti is like african tortillas and chips are fries. Soo good, not health or sanitary since nothings sanitary here but its all worth it!
Right now Lindley, Lucy and I are about to head out to venture Jinja. Shopping for dresses, sandals and jewelry are what we usually buy :]
I'll probably come back with more than I came with and I actually came with a lot already! Ohh boy.
All in all, I actually love it here aside from being asked to get married and having inconsistent internet.. Its a wonderful place :]
my new home!
Again sorry all for taking 3 weeks to post. I'll try and get posts at least once a week!
Love you all and thanks for all your prayers and support!
