Its almost been 3 weeks since I ventured to Jinja Uganda. 3 weeks full of culture shock, red stained feet, internet that doesn't work consistently, mosquito bites, work-a-duty, Swahili and many other things that I'm having to learn to cope with. I live in the village called Wiracha just outside of Jinja. Jinja is about 3 hours from Kampala which is the capital of Uganda. Its so beautiful here! I love it and I love being submersed in the presence of God. Though it is irritating being asked if I have a boyfriend and if I would want to be married anytime soon just because im a mzungu(white person in Ugandan). Or being asked if I can buy someone something because again im a mzungu. All irritating things aside, I have the most wonderful roommates! Kari from Pennsylvania is just the sweetest most kind hearted person I know. Lucy from the UK is amazing as well, she's teaching me all these words like posh-which, by the way means high class and snobby. totally changed my life because now I understand why Posh Spice was named that!- and chavvy and the difference between english biscuits and american biscuits. We spend most of our time talking about each others accents and the weird things that our different countries do! Then theres Lindley, oh my east coast rival. We are always competing on which coast is infact better than the other. She thinks im to free spirited and chill and she likes "uptightness". She hates burbs, farts, any other bodily functions and bathroom humor but I still love her! Then theres becky! ahh shes sooo funny! Shes Ugandan and she is soo sweet! She has the most faith that I've ever seen from anyone and its so inspiring!
On saturdays we head into town and get american breakfast at a restaurant called the Keep. I usually get a coffee and french toast! But its french toast without syrup but still more delicious than posho. Posho is the most disgusting thing ever to face this earth. It looks like mashed potatoes and im actually not even really sure what it is. Its dry and gross and Africans love it. Some evenings we order chips, chicken and chipotti! Its the best thing ever. Chipotti is like african tortillas and chips are fries. Soo good, not health or sanitary since nothings sanitary here but its all worth it!
Right now Lindley, Lucy and I are about to head out to venture Jinja. Shopping for dresses, sandals and jewelry are what we usually buy :]
I'll probably come back with more than I came with and I actually came with a lot already! Ohh boy.
All in all, I actually love it here aside from being asked to get married and having inconsistent internet.. Its a wonderful place :]
